Before I get into our usual OKC news, I wanted to start off by sharing my thoughts around Maui because it's been on my mind. A few weeks have passed and I still can't wrap my brain around the devastation. And I know there's devastation all over the world and needs across many communities - including our own backyard - but the recent events feel surreal.
While I am a haole and live on the mainland, I have always had a deep appreciation for the Islands. With a boyfriend that races outrigger canoes and so many family and friends across Hawaii, Maui has been my sacred place and like a second home - filled with peace, tranquility and Aloha.
When I close my eyes I can automatically transport myself there. I think about Maui's soft wind, the smell of wet asphalt after the rain, the smell of plumeria and jasmine in the air, the sand between my toes... and all of the beautiful views she offers.
Just like you have supported OKC and our local community over the years, I am sure you're finding ways to help the Maui community, too. I just wanted to invite you to pause for a moment here and join me in collective prayer and hopeful energy. 🙏🏽
Tips & Taco Night
Thanks to Fox 5 San Diego for inviting us on to talk about OKC's Zero Waste Tips, Taco Night and our Mission: To reduce food waste and food insecurity in our communities through catering, food production, and education programs. With your help, we've diverted more than 300,000 pounds of rescued, perfectly edible food to create more than 360,000 meals for community partners and those in need.
Let's keep the momentum of our collective impact going! Check below for information about San Diego Gives!
Plus, join us for delicious tacos next Tuesday, September 5th from 4pm to 7pm at Jitters Coffee Pub. We'll enjoy yummy food by OKC and groovy music by Guest DJ Alex Kinsey. The San Diego Blood Bank will be there too, so come out and give.
We appreciate you all for being so generous with your support. Looking forward to seeing you next week!
